Dugan gave us quite the scare!
So we went to the barn today, headed out a little late because I had to do my front brakes. We got their around 3ish. We said our hellos and were talking with folks there, Michaela went out to the pasture to get Dugan. She brings him in, and they make room in the barn to hook him up. He started to have a coughing fit. So bad, that he almost went down. Cindy quickly gave him some albuteral, to see if it would help his breathing. Michaela brought him out to get some grass and see if he'd calm down. Meanwhile, Cindy called the Vet to see if they were on the road and could stop in. She was, and stopped in, by the time she got there, Dugan was munching on grass and breathing alot better. The vet checked and she could hear him wheezing. She determined that it was the right course of action to give him the albuteral. She gave him a shot of predenisone and He is now on a Predenisone treatment, with the albuteral. We turned him out to the upper pasture, and he went running around like a little kid at an amusement park. It was a great relief to see him acting himself. Hopefully his lungs were just a bit worn out from coughing the last couple months due to the dryness. And we won't have any long term medication needs.. but if so....
Vacation and then some...
So vacation started off a bit wet. It was raining as we were trying to get all the last minute stuff into the trailer, didn't get my oil change done in time. We headed out around 2pm.. was hoping for 1, but not bad considering the rain. Got out to Hammond Lake and it was nice and clear. We had a great first night, though I was wiped. Friday and Saturday were great days, beautiful out and we just relaxed both days. Michaela and Hollie were playing the different games we have in the camper. Nikki and I were back and forth with reading and just relaxing.
Hurricane Irene was working her way up the coast, and hit on Sunday. We got some rain and maybe some 20-25mph gusting winds, but that was about it. Reports came in from home that we had lost power. My parents ended up staying home to run the generator so they didn't loose all their food. Our power came back on Monday, and Mom and Pops came over to check on things. A little water in the basement, but frig and freezer were good. They still didn't have power.
Monday was another beautiful day at the lake. Started typing some of my book and read some more. Took some walks and relaxed some more. Waited for word of when my parents would get there.
Tues, got reports my parents had power, but no word on when they'd be there. Called them late Tues only to find out my Dad didn't want to make the trip, but was going to try and get into the campground that were were going to be at for Labor Day, early. What a bummmmm.
So we gave up on the family, and just made the most of it. We went fishing, did some hiking on the archery trail, the girls brought their bows and did really well. Had fun catching lots of fish, nothing big, but lots of fun.
Nanana was just a bear the entire time, barking at everyone and everything. Turns out, she went into heat on thursday... We were not expecting this until November... Dog in heat, small trailer.. not good. She doesn't understand why she isn't allowed on the furniture.
So in all this, I ended up throwing my back out on Monday, it was really bad when I woke up tuesday, and my legs collapsed under me. Thank GOD I was in the trailer and had something to hold onto.
We brought the canoe and kayak, and didn't even get to use them since my back went out. Couldn't carry them. Had all I could muster to get them on the roof of the truck to head out on Friday.
The trip from Hammond Lake to Lake Ontario was nice. We rode 53 miles along the finger lakes. What great views and wineries up the wazoooo. We left Hammond Lake around 11, and got up to Lake Ontario around 4ish. What a disappointment Going from nice paved sites with little rock picnic area's and plenty of room to tie out the dogs and play in the grass.. to being cramped on a rocky site. And the smell coming off the lake was really horrible. But we don't let anything get us down. We made the most of it. Didn't get to fish Friday night like we wanted to.
Saturday, we ended up going to Thousand Islands and Boldt Castle. Nikki stayed behind to watch the dogs and relax and read.. Here headaches were bad all week. The girls loved the boat ride to the castle and the castle itself.
Sunday we entered the fishing contest and fished until noon, caught only Goby's and perch, which we didn't think were game fish so threw back. Ended up that perch counted, I had snapped a picture of mine against my pole, and they accepted that. I took 1st place, I think it was only me and Nikki who entered. We all got hats and the girls also got Hershey bars.. we had a good time though. We broke for lunch, relaxed some, read, and then went back out to do some more fishing.. Didn't catch anything big, but saw a really huge fish swim by. So at least we knew they were out there.
Monday headed out around 11 am, had some issues with the truck on the way home. but made it by around 5. Hollie slept over and I dropped the kids at school on Tues. Tues night I dropped all of Hollie's stuff off at her house on the way home from Newark. Crazy driving though, since alot of the roads were still closed or flooded from Irene...
